Problem This Solves

Link GitHub repositories to turn retrospective cards into code issues and track pull request review states.

When to Use This

A GitHub organization or user account with repository administrative permissions.

Prerequisites

  • A GitHub organization or user account with repository administrative permissions.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Access GitHub Integration: In /dashboard/integrations, click the GitHub card (subtitled: "Connect repositories, create issues from retro cards, and track PR status").
  2. Authorize the GitHub App: Click Connect GitHub to open GitHub's authorization dialog. Select the organizations and repositories LetRetro is allowed to access.
  3. Select Target Repositories: Choose whether to grant access to all repositories or select specific repositories for your engineering squad.
  4. Open Board Settings: Navigate to your retrospective board, click Settings > Integrations, and designate the default GitHub repository for this space.
  5. Create an Issue from a Card: Click any retrospective card, select Create GitHub Issue, enter label tags (e.g., tech-debt, refactor), and confirm.
  6. Review PR Linkage: The created GitHub issue URL is pinned directly to the card. When team members open a PR referencing the issue (fixes #104), PR merge status appears on the card.

Expected Outcome

Your technical retro observations convert directly into traceable GitHub issues and pull requests.

Troubleshooting & Realistic Tips

  • Engineering squads tackling technical debt can apply custom labels like 'retro-action' to filter issues in sprint planning.
