How do I archive or delete a board in the Danger Zone?

Safely retire completed sprints using Archive, or permanently purge obsolete spaces using Delete in board settings.

Problem This Solves

Safely retire completed sprints using Archive, or permanently purge obsolete spaces using Delete in board settings.

When to Use This

Facilitator or board owner privileges on the target retrospective space.

Prerequisites

  • Facilitator or board owner privileges on the target retrospective space.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Open Board Settings: Navigate to your target board and click the Settings tab in the top navigation bar.
  2. Navigate to Danger Zone: In the left settings menu, scroll to the bottom and select Danger Zone.
  3. Understand the Difference Between Actions:
    • Archive Board: Places the retrospective into an archived, read-only state. Cards, polls, and action items are preserved for compliance and trend analytics, but the board is cleared from active team boards.
    • Delete Board: Permanently destroys the board, including all submitted cards, comments, votes, polls, and documents. This operation is irreversible.
  4. Executing Archive: Click the Archive board button and confirm the modal prompt to retire the sprint.
  5. Executing Permanent Delete: Click the red Delete board button, read the warning dialog, and confirm deletion to permanently erase the space from your workspace.

Expected Outcome

You have cleanly retired or permanently removed your retrospective space according to team data management requirements.

Troubleshooting & Realistic Tips

  • Whenever in doubt, choose Archive instead of Delete. Archived boards preserve compliance records and count zero towards clutter.
