How do I create my first retrospective?

Step-by-step instructions to create, configure, and launch your first collaborative retrospective board in LetRetro.

Problem This Solves

Starting a sprint retrospective requires a structured, collaborative space where team members can contribute without delay. This guide walks you through setting up and launching your first retrospective board in LetRetro before your ceremony begins.

When to Use This

Use this workflow whenever you conclude an iteration, finish a major milestone, or need an ad-hoc continuous improvement session with your squad.

Prerequisites

  • An active LetRetro account with access to a team workspace.
  • Your iteration name (e.g., Sprint 24) and retrospective focus or sprint goal.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Navigate to Dashboard: Sign in to your LetRetro workspace from your browser.
  2. Create Board: On your team dashboard, click the New Board button.
  3. Select a Framework: Choose a template matching your sprint situation (such as Start/Stop/Continue, Mad/Sad/Glad, 4Ls, or Mountain Climb).
  4. Set Board Details: Enter your sprint name and optional objective so participants understand the retrospective context.
  5. Configure Anonymous Mode: Enable anonymous feedback mode if your team requires psychological safety to surface sensitive topics without bias.
  6. Launch Board: Click to open the board and enter the synchronized retro room.

Expected Outcome

Your retrospective board opens with real-time synchronized columns matching your chosen template, ready for immediate card submissions, dot voting, and collaborative discussion.

Troubleshooting & Realistic Tips

  • Free Plan Board Limit: Free workspaces support up to 3 active boards. If you hit this limit, archive or delete old boards, or upgrade to Pro for unlimited boards.
  • Custom Columns: Defining bespoke column layouts requires a Pro workspace ($15/month flat); all built-in templates are available on the Free plan.
