How do I hide feedback during silent reflection and reveal it for discussion?

Toggle Blind Mode to keep cards hidden during silent reflection and reveal them for group discussion.

Problem This Solves

Toggle Blind Mode to keep cards hidden during silent reflection and reveal them for group discussion.

When to Use This

Access to an active Retro board as a facilitator or participant.

Prerequisites

  • Access to an active Retro board as a facilitator or participant.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Locate the Visibility Icon: Look in the top right header of the board workspace for the Eye-with-slash icon (next to the filter and search icons).
  2. Enable Blind Mode for Silent Writing: Click the Eye icon to hide card contents. During this period, cards submitted by team members appear masked.
  3. Encourage Independent Thinking: With cards hidden, team members write without anchoring bias or conformity to dominant voices.
  4. Reveal Cards for Discussion: When the reflection timebox expires, click the Eye icon again.
  5. Review Revealed Columns: All cards across every column (START, STOP, CONTINUE, etc.) are unveiled simultaneously for collective review.

Expected Outcome

Teams avoid groupthink, anchor effects, and premature debate, producing a more authentic and diverse distribution of retrospective insights.

Troubleshooting & Realistic Tips

  • Only users with facilitator/owner permissions should toggle Blind Mode during live ceremonies. If cards reveal unexpectedly, verify participant roles in Board Settings > Members.
